OUGD405 - Brief 3 - Layout/Design Decisions

Monochrome layout concept - I realised after experimenting with colour that I wanted to change the overall look and feel of my publication. I moved away from colour and decided to make all of the double page spreads monochromatic. I was greatly inspired by early pioneers of analogue photography and images such as these by the designer and photographer Laszlo Moholy Nagy really inspired and influenced my design choices for the most part of brief 4. These images were created using photo-gram techniques and are the furtherest away from digital you can get. His geometry and abstractions of light really influenced my layout ideas and inspired me to create a completely monochrome booklet.

I did some further research into monochromatic layout design, and I was also massively inspired by some of the zines I came across in my primary research.

Sofia's Clausse's abstract use of typography dramatically inspired me to reconsider the layout and cover design for my own publication.

I set out the title of the book in Arial, duplicated the type, changed the opacities and applied various liquifying filters and also inverted the selection to create an abstract illusion which is still legible and works as a front cover. I formatted the abstract text into a squaure to represent the shape of slides which drew from my initial ideas.
