OUGD406 - Biref 01 - Artist and Designer Research

Leif Podhajsky - artist and designer - Leif is an artist and Creative Director. His work explores themes of connectedness, the relevance of nature and the psychedelic experience. By utilizing these subjects he attempts to inspire the viewer into a realignment with themselves and their surroundings.

Leif creates artwork and design for a number of brands, record labels and musicians around the world such as; Nike, Wired Magazine, Sony Music, Vice, Warner Records, Warp Records, Smart Car, Atlantic, XL, 4AD, Ninja Tune, Modular Records, Foals, Tame Impala, Grimes, The Horrors, Lykke Li, Bonobo.

I am drawn to his work, as it has a brilliant organic quality to it. He uses colours that are bold, neon, contrasting and beautifully complimentary,  His work has a strong graphic feel to it whilst still retaining subtleness of pattern and natural form.

Flying Lotus - his album covers are always trippy and eye catching. Flying Lotus is a rapper and artist and produces a lot of his own promotional material for his records. I like the grapgic feel they have, they are not overly illustrative but instead communicate an almost fantasy like environment in which the music lives.
